Instagram Reels Resizer and Safe Zone Checker

Resize photos and videos for Reels, Stories and feed, and check the safe zone before you post.

Every creator knows the frustration: you export a Reel, post it, and Instagram buries your title under the caption, hides your face behind the like buttons, or crops your cover on the profile grid. Our free Instagram Reels resizer and safe zone checker fixes that before you post. Drop in a video or image, pick a format, and the live preview shows exactly which areas Instagram covers with its own buttons, username and caption. Drag to reframe, zoom to adjust, then export the file at the exact pixel size Instagram wants.

Unlike most resizers, nothing is uploaded. The whole tool runs in your browser, on your own device, so there is no sign-up, no watermark and no 100MB upload cap. Resize the Reel itself, then resize its cover image on the same page, and finish the post with our hashtag generator. Creators also pair this page with the watermark remover and image compressor, or browse the full free tools collection.

Key features

  • Five exact sizes: Reels and Stories 9:16 (1080 x 1920), Feed Portrait 4:5 (1080 x 1350), Square 1:1 (1080 x 1080), Profile Grid 3:4 (1080 x 1440) and Landscape 16:9 (1920 x 1080).
  • Two safe zone modes: Organic shows the areas the normal player covers, Ad shows Meta’s larger official ad margins. Switch between them on the 9:16 preset and see the difference on your own frame.
  • Profile grid crop check: the 3:4 preset previews and exports the exact centre crop your profile grid displays, so cover titles and faces stop getting cut.
  • Drag and zoom reframing: cover-fit your media, drag it into position and zoom from 1x to 3x, with a rule-of-thirds grid when you want it.
  • Video and images in one tool: export images as PNG or JPG, and videos as MP4 wherever your browser supports it, with the original audio kept. Video export runs in real time in your browser.
  • Private by design: files are processed on your device and never uploaded to a server. No account, no watermark, no cost.

How to use the Reels resizer

  1. Drop your video or image onto the tool above, or click to browse. MP4, WebM, JPG, PNG and WebP all work.
  2. Pick a format: start with Reels and Stories 9:16 for a Reel, or Profile Grid 3:4 to check a cover.
  3. On 9:16, choose the Organic or Ad safe zone mode. Keep faces, text and logos out of the red areas.
  4. Drag the preview to reposition and use the zoom slider to fine-tune the framing.
  5. Download the image, or export the video. The file lands on your device at exactly the preset size, ready to post.

Why do safe zone numbers differ between sources?

Search for Reels safe zones and you will find five websites giving five different answers, and most never explain why. The main reason is that there are two different interfaces. The organic player your viewers see covers roughly the top 210px, the bottom 310px and an 84px button rail on the right of a 1080 x 1920 frame. Reels ads carry extra furniture, a Sponsored label at the top and a call-to-action button at the bottom, so Meta’s official ad guidance reserves much more: 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side. Caption length matters too, because a two-line caption and a long audio title push the covered area higher than a short one.

Neither set of numbers is wrong; they are measuring different things. If you are posting an organic Reel, the Organic mode in this tool matches what your audience sees. If you are boosting the post or running it as an ad, switch to Ad mode and keep your headline, product and call to action inside Meta’s larger margins. Checking both takes ten seconds and saves the most common Reels layout mistakes.

One more crop catches creators out. Your Reel appears as a 4:5 centre crop in the feed and as a 3:4 crop on your profile grid, which removes 240px from the top and 240px from the bottom of the full frame. Keep your cover title inside the central 1080 x 1440 band, and use the Profile Grid preset above to see that crop on your actual cover before you publish.

Frequently asked questions

Are the safe zones for organic Reels and Reels ads the same?

No. Ads add a Sponsored label and a call-to-action button over the video, so Meta's official ad guidance reserves much more of the frame: 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side of a 1080 x 1920 video. The organic player covers less, roughly 210px at the top, 310px at the bottom and an 84px button rail on the right. That single difference is why different websites publish different safe zone numbers. This tool gives you both modes on the 9:16 preset: Organic and Ad.

How will my Reel be cropped in the feed and on my profile grid?

In the feed, a Reel appears as a 4:5 centre crop. On your profile grid it appears as 3:4, which cuts 240px off the top and 240px off the bottom of a 1080 x 1920 frame. Use the Feed Portrait 4:5 and Profile Grid 3:4 presets here to preview those exact crops on your own video or cover image before you post.

What size should a Reels cover image be, and which part of it survives the grid crop?

Upload covers at 1080 x 1920 px. Only the central 1080 x 1440 area is shown on the profile grid, so keep the title, face and logo inside that middle band. Resize your cover with the Reels and Stories preset, then switch to the Profile Grid 3:4 preset to check exactly what the grid will show.

Can I resize a video for Instagram without uploading it or creating an account?

Yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so your file is processed on your own device: no account, no upload, and no 100MB upload cap like some other sites set. The only limit is your device memory, and the tool even keeps working if you disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.

Should I crop my horizontal video to 9:16, or pad it with blurred bars?

Crop when the subject sits near the centre and the source resolution is high, for example a 4K landscape clip crops down to a clean 1080 wide vertical. Blurred padding is the safer choice when important content touches the left and right edges, or when the source is only 720p, because cropping cannot invent detail that is not there. This tool crops with a cover fit: drag the preview and use the zoom slider to choose exactly which part of the frame survives.

What export settings stop Instagram from making my resized Reel look blurry?

Export at exactly 1080 x 1920 px, as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, at a healthy bitrate, and always from your best quality source file. This tool exports at exactly the preset size with a high bitrate, and picks MP4 first wherever your browser supports it. Uploading a 4K file does not help: Instagram caps playback at 1080 wide and re-encodes everything, and a second compression of an already compressed file is what produces the soft, blocky look.

Does the Instagram resizer work on phones?

Yes, it works in any modern mobile or desktop browser, with nothing to install. For long video exports a desktop browser like Chrome or Edge is more reliable, because video export runs in real time and mobile browsers can pause background tabs.
